DOCHERTY KICKS STEELERS TO TOOHEYS CHALLENGE GLORY The Illawarra Steelers’ victory over a star-studded Brisbane Broncos outfit in the final of the 1992 Tooheys Challenge Cup at Dubbo’s Apex Park remains one of the great matches for rugby league trainspotters. The result that night was 4-2 to the underdog Steelers, who claimed their first and only piece of silverware as a lone entity in Australia’s elite-level rugby league competition. The only points of the game came via penalty goals, and Illawarra’s sharp shooter that day was their winger, Brett Docherty.
